Our Story

Hello! My name is Chuck McNett and in 2000 I began attending estate auctions in my community. Much of the area around me consists of farm land and there were many estate sales for retiring farmers. Having worked on my father-in-law’s farm through college, I had a solid background in what a lot of the farm primitives were. I experimented with selling some of these unique pieces on eBay after helping to sell some collector basketball cards. I was not prepared for the interest people from across the world would have for these items.

I quickly outgrew my family’s kitchen and began working out of a unused grainery building on the same farm I worked at in college. This dated, but cozy white building became the office and also the inspiration for the name “The Old Grainery”. Growth continued and we expanded to other farm buildings owned by my father-in-law.

Eventually we had to say goodbye to the original grainery that housed our operation, but the name had stuck. We now operate out of a 13,000 square foot warehouse. While farm primitives are our roots, we have also worked with glassware, industrial furniture, lumber, and many other highly sought after products.

Today our goods can be found online on eBay, Etsy, Instagram, and Facebook. We pick for major buyers all over in Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, Japan, and many other locations. Twice a year we set up a tent at the Round Top Antiques Show in Round Top, Texas. Just recently we have expanded our products to include antique imports from Europe that are really unique and sought after.

The Old Grainery continues to evolve today and is always looking for new partners to work with or to pick for. We are proud to be a small business that is surrounded by a wonderful community in Payson, Illinois. The Old Grainery is here today because of hard work and innovation from our employees over the years. Thank you to our current wonderful workers and my family for their support over the past 20 years. Please take some time to check out our items for sale on the website and to follow our Instagram and Facebook accounts where we have updates on our products several times a week.
