James Boswell compiled this biography of English writer Dr. Samuel Johnson. ... Boswell's personal acquaintance with his subject began in 1763, when Johnson was 54 years old, and Boswell covered the entirety of Johnson's life by means of additional research.

Samuel Johnson, often called Dr Johnson, was an English writer who made lasting contributions as a poet, playwright, essayist, moralist, critic, biographer, editor and lexicographer. He was a devout Anglican, and a committed Tory.

 They measure approximately 8 " top to bottom, 5 1/2" side to side and 1 1/2" thick.

These wonderfully old books are in fair readable condition. Both volumes have illustrations throughout. The covers on volume 1 are completely detached and the spine is missing. There is also a newspaper clipping glued to the page right before the title page in volume 1. The pages in both books do have some light foxing and you may find some handwriting from the original owner. Please review the photos for the condition
