Antique Wernicke System “Elastic” Bookcase section from The Wernicke Co., Grand Rapids, Michigan. This piece dates to approximately 1897–1904, before the Wernicke company merged into Globe-Wernicke. It features the original interior stencil with patent dates from 1892 to 1897, identifying it as Size C-11 and Grade 198.

The oak has a warm, rich color with the expected age-appropriate wear, and the original lift-and-slide glass door operates smoothly. This is an early, pre-merger section with the desirable stenciled markings rather than the later paper labels, making it a collectible example of Wernicke’s first-generation barrister bookcases. 

A timeless piece of functional antique furniture that works in libraries, offices, shops, and home interiors. Shows expected age and character but presents beautifully.
